Johnny Sloss Takes on the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run for Keratoconus Group

On 4th October, Johnny Sloss will be lacing up his running shoes and taking on the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run, all while raising funds for Keratoconus Group.

We’re incredibly grateful that Johnny has chosen to support our charity and help raise awareness of keratoconus, a condition that has been part of his life since childhood.

Running for a Cause Close to Home

Johnny was diagnosed with keratoconus when he was just 12 years old and underwent corneal cross-linking surgery shortly afterwards. While treatment helped stabilise his condition, living with keratoconus remains a daily reality.

When asked why he chose to fundraise for Keratoconus Group, Johnny said:

“I wanted to run for Keratoconus Group as I was diagnosed with it when I was 12 years old and then quickly after had cross-linking surgery. Although my vision without my contacts is very poor, I’m able to live a normal life with my contact lenses in.

But it really does run my life as I’m always having to carry my case and solutions with me everywhere I go. It’s a bit of a running joke with everyone that knows me.

I’m 29 years old and have always been quite a fit person but recently been enjoying running a lot more. I’ve only ran 10K before but did get a good time of 37 minutes, so hoping I can raise a lot of money for Keratoconus and get a good time!”

Johnny’s story will resonate with many people in the keratoconus community. While contact lenses can provide life-changing vision correction, they also come with everyday challenges that many people without the condition never have to think about.

Taking on a New Challenge

Having previously completed a 10K in an impressive 37 minutes, Johnny is now stepping up to a bigger challenge by taking on the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run.

Training for any long-distance event requires commitment, determination and resilience—qualities that many people living with keratoconus demonstrate every day.

By running for Keratoconus Group, Johnny is helping us continue our work supporting people affected by keratoconus, raising awareness of the condition, and providing trusted information and community support to those who need it.
