I am now 80 and was diagnosed with KC in 1978. Used hard contact lenses from 1965 (not gas permeable in those days) until right eye required full depth graft in 1987. Left eye had KC as well but nowhere near as bad. RGPs fitted for both eyes & successful for 19 years (wore glasses on top) – graft clouded over (2008 & steroids could not save it) and in 2009 had 2nd transplant + cataract done.

Great difficulty this time in finding suitable contact lens to fit. Hospital tried soft, scleral & piggyback without success until another RGP finally worked. Now that both eyes, with intraocular lenses after cataract op in left eye, my distance vision is not far off 20/20 – no need for glasses for distance or for reading. Left eye is good (not perfect) both for distance and close-up. Right eye, with contact lens is good for distance only. All in all very satisfactory with excellent Hospital support throughout. Hope this helps for some of you who might be finding the whole process daunting!! PS
And I’ve also just finished chemotherapy for Lymphoma cancer. Keep persevering & explaining KC to all hospital dept’s you may visit!
